Woodland Creation at Sandbank

We’ve purchased 17 acres of land opposite the cemetery in Sandbank to plant a new continuous cover forest.

Continuous cover balances timber production, biodiversity and landscape value of forests. In essence you create a mixed age forest and only cut down a small percentage of the trees at any one time. Very different to the clear fell method which most productive forests in Scotland are (and which are very visible from Sandbank!).

Woodland Creation

  • We’ll plant the fields with a mixture of broadleaves and conifers (see map below for species)
  • Once the trees are old enough we will manage the woodland under ‘continuous cover forestry’,

Cabins

  • We’d like to build 5 holiday let cabin and intend to submit a planning application in the near future.
  • The cabins would be built predominantly from timber
  • The cabins would constructed and operated to high environmental sustainability levels.
  • We want to deliver basic woodland/forestry related experiences to guests and to help educate more people on the benefits of continuous cover forestry.
